Water is a gift, a blessing and most precious thing in the world. Everything, living or non-living contains water in small or large quantity and that’s why everything in the world needs water to exist. Having mentioned why water is so important, it is also noteworthy that human beings cannot rely on ordinary water for their survival. The reason is, tap water or stored water may get contaminated with parasites and bacteria.
The tap water we get may look clean but it needs to be purified from impurities before drinking and cooking. The reason is, tap water reaches our home water tanks through pipelines which require periodic cleaning. Plus the filtration systems in the distribution plant may not be cleaned properly. The water comes from rivers and streams, and they are exposed to impurities, dangerous pollutants and diseases.
In these scenarios, using tap water without purifying it may be unsafe. You should understand how to use water filters. If you cannot afford whole home water filters, you can use any of the following methods to ensure pro-health water.
1. Boiling
Boiling is the oldest method to remove impurities from the water. In this process, you have to put the pot filled with water on stove. Turn the stove to high heat and allow the utensil to heat up. The temperature of the water will rise and it makes impossible for the micro-organism to survive on such a temperature. By the time water reaches its boiling point (100 degree Celsius), all the bacteria are killed. In this way, you can minimize chances of getting sick. You can also use water softeners for this purpose.
The indication of water boiling can be seen by the steam coming out of the pot and the bubbles appearing on the surface of water. Allow the water to boil for about 3 to 5 minutes, so that it can be purified sufficiently.
Later, you can use a clean, lint-free cloth or a filter to pass water in the pot to another container. Any impurities in the water can be filtered in this manner.
2. Solar Still
If you don’t have a heat source but there is a sufficient amount of sunlight, you can use the sunlight to heat up the water and purify it naturally. You need a bowl with a flat surface to hold water inside. Put a cup in the bowl, and make sure it has enough weight not to float.
Pour the impure water into the bowl around the cup. Keep the cup empty. Now, use a clear wrap and cover the top of the cup and the bowl tightly to make a seal. You can put a heavy rock on top of the wrap, just over the cup.
Now, place the mechanism in an open space where it is exposed to sunlight. After some time, you will see that the water starts to evaporate but as it doesn’t have space to escape, it accumulates on the paper and slips into the cup. Wait, until the whole water is shifted into the cup through in this manner.
Although, the process is safe, it may take a few days to get just one cup of water.
